Fees and Billing

Information for patients & families

How anaesthetic fees work

Your anaesthetist’s fee is separate from your surgeon’s fee and the hospital charges. For private surgery, the fee is calculated using the standard national system based on the type of operation, its duration, and factors specific to you.

Medicare and your private health fund each cover part of the fee. In many cases there is a difference between the total fee and the combined rebates — this is the out-of-pocket amount, or “gap”. Where a gap applies, you will be informed of the estimated amount before your surgery. This is called informed financial consent, and you should never feel hesitant to ask questions about it.

Before your surgery

Once your operation is booked, our billing office will contact you (or you can contact them) with a written estimate of the anaesthetic fee and your expected out-of-pocket cost. To prepare the estimate they will need your procedure details, Medicare number and health fund details.

Billing enquiries

All accounts, estimates and payment enquiries are handled by our billing office:

Phone: 02 9060 0205
Email: team@ifcmedical.com.au

Please include your surgery date and your surgeon’s name when you get in touch.

Uninsured and public patients

If you are treated as a public patient in a public hospital, there is no anaesthetic fee. If you are considering private surgery without health insurance (self-funded), contact the billing office for a full estimate before you proceed.
